Vigil held for murdered Long Island teens

A heart breaking candlelight vigil was held at Brentwood High School in Brentwood, Long Island, Friday night to mourn Nisa Mickens, 15, and Kayla Cuevas, 16, who were brutally murdered this week. Family members and young friends cried and hugged one another as they mourned.

The two young women were found beaten to death and cut. Their bodies had been dumped in a neighborhood near the high school. Police believe the young women were victims of gang violence.

Nisa's father told the crowd of mourners packed into the bleachers at the high school football field that his daughter and Kayla have been friends since kindergarten.

The Suffolk County police commissioner said a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. He asked the crowd, especially the young people, to help police if they know something.

It has taken the murders of these two young women for the public to pay attention to a problem of gang violence -- something that many people who live in Brentwood already knew about.
