A woman and her teenaged daughter were shot several times inside a car in Linden, New Jersey, Tuesday night, police said. Police officers found the car rolled into a pole at East Henry Street and Bower Street shortly after 7 p.m., authorities said.

Responders rushed the women to University Hospital in Newark. The AP reported that the 41-year-old mother was listed in critical but stable condition with wounds to her torso and pelvis. The 15-year-old daughter was treated for a graze wound to her face and a wound to her wrist and released.

The women were apparently shot in the 900 block of Middlesex Street and the car was found a short distance from that scene.

Police said the women were apparently the intended target of the gunman described as being in his 30s and wearing a scarf over his face, the AP reported.

Police have not made any arrests.
