(FOX 5 NEWS) - Until he gets his border wall, President Donald Trump announced he wants to deploy the U.S. military to secure the border with Mexico.
"Until we can have a wall and proper security, we're going to be guarding our border with the military," Trump said. "That's a big step. We really haven't done that before."
The White House later said Trump wants to mobilize the National Guard.
"Mexico has very strong immigration laws, as we should have," Trump said. "We have immigration laws that are laughed at by everybody."
The president was still fired up as he has been for days about illegal immigration. He also threatened to end NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement, with Mexico.
"It has been a horrible, horrible embarrassing deal for the United States," he said. "This should have been terminated or renegotiated many years ago."
And could another Cabinet shakeup be coming? When a reporter asked if Trump supports EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, the president said, "I hope he's going to be great."
Pruitt has been under scrutiny for his spending habits.
Two Democratic congressmen want an investigation into Pruitt's reported "sweetheart" deal on a Capitol Hill condo owned by energy lobbyists. Lawmakers are also condemning his pattern of first class air travel, allegedly to enhance security.
Even some Republicans are joining the "Dump Pruitt" chorus.
And environmentalists are furious he has loosened regulations.
"Scott Pruitt has been a lightning rod. He has been the incarnation of evil for environmental groups and climate activists," Marc Morano, a climate change expert, said. "So they're doing everything they can to go after him."
Pruitt ignored questions that reporters shouted at him at a ceremony on Tuesday.
