Tim Tebow hits home run at first at-bat in instructional league

Tim Tebow, the New York Mets prospect, former NFL quarterback and 2007 Heisman Trophy winner, hit a home run at his first at bat during the instructional team's first game.

Tebow, 29, hit the ball to left center field Wednesday against the St. Louis Cardinals' instructional club.

A day earlier, the one-time football star had two hits, scored a run and ended a three-inning game with a sliding grab in a warm-up to his big debut.

"I feel like every day I'm getting a little more comfortable," said Tebow. "It's great just to see live pitching and get live at-bats. I'm just getting a little bit better every day. That's the goal."

Tebow received a $100,000 signing bonus when he joined the minor league club.

At the time, he hadn't played baseball since his junior year in high school at Nease high Schol in Ponte Vedra, Florida.
