Teacher enlists students to serve as flower girls

An Indianapolis teacher had 20 special guests walk down the aisle — her young students.

Marielle Slagel Keller teaches kindergarten and first grade at Butler Lab Elementary, and when she married husband Michael last month, she enlisted the students to be her flower girls and ring bearers.

“When it came time to choose my flower girls and ring bearers they were the only kids that came to mind,” she told Inside Edition. “When you spend so much time with these kids, you basically live with them and grow close to them; I’ve had a lot of them for two years. I just couldn't imagine any other kids being in the wedding."

Michael added: “I think the part we were most concerned about is you've got that big climactic kiss at the end. I wondered how her kindergarten class would take that when they saw me kissing their teacher."

Lucy, 8, one of the first grade flower girls, told Inside Edition: “It was really cool. It made us feel special, very, very special.”

After the ceremony, a special cupcake reception was held just for her students.

“That was my favorite part," the new bride said. "As soon as I walked in the door it was just a huge group hug that seemingly lasted forever. It was really special for all of us."
