NYPD morale low, says PBA union

The union representing NYPD officers says it has conducted a survey of more than 6,000 officers and found that morale is low among the rank-and-file.

87 percent of responding officers also said the city is becoming less safe and about 55 percent responded that the city was "a lot less safe."

Approximately 24,000 police officers are on the job.

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton took issue with part of the report and said he would have a full response after going over it point by point. Bratton did say that the department has spent two years addressing many of the concerns of uniformed officers.

“The results of this survey prove what we’ve been hearing time and time again from members over the past two years — the job is more difficult than ever, the dangers are greater, and morale is extremely low,” said Patrick Lynch, president of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, in a statement.

The full findings of the survey by the PBA are expected to be released Tuesday.
