Human remains found in shopping cart

Rotting human remains have been found in a shopping cart in the Bronx.

Police made the discovery Wednesday night in front of a bodega on E. 182nd St. in the University Heights section  of the Bronx. The NYPD found a man's remains inside a cardboard box in a shopping cart that was covered by a black bag at about 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

Terry Frazier collects bottles in the area.  He says he came across the shopping cart a day ago looking for cans or bottles and felt "something mushy" in the box and didn't look inside.

"We have shootings around here but no bodies," Frazier said.

Witnesses in the area reported a horrible smell as police took the body away a few hours later.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.  No further details were immediately released.
