The Coast Guard called off a search Wednesday for a boy, 10, missing in the waters off Long Beach.

The boy was with his 11-year-old brother when they went under Tuesday afternoon. The older boy was rescued and taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside in stable condition. The younger boy was not located.

Crews went into the water off of Ocean Beach Park Tuesday afternoon on watercraft and with personal floatation devices as part of the search.

Fire officials say the brothers were swimming near the jetty, which is the most dangerous part because the rip currents are the strongest. Lifeguards were not on duty at the time.

The search was called off after the Coast Guard searched more than 310-nautical miles for a total of 22 hours.
