NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - The bodies of a boy and a man were found in a vehicle in Virginia matching the description of the car used to take a boy from Long Island.
It is not clear if the bodies are that of Jovani Ligurgo, 2, and his father, John Ligurgo III.
An update form Suffolk County Police was expected Wednesday afternoon.
Police had been searching for the child and his father after the boy was not returned to his mother on Long Island.
John Ligurgo III, 43, of Coram, was expected to drop off the boy, Jovani Ligurgo, on Tuesday afternoon in Smithtown.
At around the same time, firefighters responded to a call about a blaze at Ligurgo's home. When they arrived, there was no one inside.
The fire was reportedly contained to a bedroom and was quickly put out.
Suffolk County Police believe Ligurgo III fled the state with the boy in his black Jeep Grand Cherokee, New York license plate GAV4699.
He may be in possession of a hunting rifle.
