NYC Rodent Academy teaches you to eliminate rats

- A common foe brought some New Yorkers together to learn how best to fight it. The NYC Rodent Academy, a workshop from the Department of Health and Hygiene on rat prevention.

Caroline Bragdon, the facilitator of the so-called rat academy, says that everyone—tenants, property owners, business owners, community gardeners, and others—has a role in pest control.

While rats have become commonplace in city subways, the rat academy addresses city neighborhoods, especially when there is an uptick in complaints.

City health officials say proper disposal of trash is crucial. And because rats can gnaw through just about anything, they are encouraging residents and landlords to move toward rodent-resistant trash cans instead of the traditional ones.

The rat academy meets monthly in all five boroughs.
