Reward money tops $200K in Karina Vetrano murder
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - More than $188,000 has been raised through the website GoFundMe for a reward in the arrest of Karina Vetrano's killer.
The Howard Beach, Queens, woman was murdered last week while out for a run.
On Wednesday, Phil Vetrano, her father, announced that the GoFundMe page was created to supplement the NYPD's reward money of $20,000, with a goal of raising $100,000 by the end of the week.
Total reward money topped more than $200,000 on Thursday.
Vetrano, 30, was possibly raped and then strangled in the tall weeds of a marshy section of Spring Creek Park, part of the federally owned Gateway National Recreation Area. She had gone for a run along her usual route.
To date, police have interviewed hundreds of people, including sex offenders, and have collected over a dozen surveillance videos from nearby homes around the crime.
About three dozen tips have come in, but police have yet to identify a suspect.
Right now police say they don't believe the crime is connected to any other recent attacks including one in Massachusetts, but the detectives are comparing notes.
