As is customary, President Barack Obama has remained largely impartial in the Democratic nomination process, but is now poised to endorse Hillary Clinton, according to a report.

Obama may formally endorse his former secretary of state this week, the New York Times reported, depending on how she fares in Tuesday primaries against rival Bernie Sanders. Monday evening, the Associated Press reported that Clinton had secured enough delegates to clinch the nomination.

The president is reportedly eager to hit the campaign trail on Clinton's behalf and launch attacks against presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump.

Obama's approval rating have steadily risen in recent months, paving the way for Clinton to be eager to have him campaign for her, especially if he can help convince skeptical Sanders fans supporters to throw their support behind her.
