A touching tribute to a fallen young police officer lit up the night sky in Prince William County on Monday evening. The Prince William County Police Department paid tribute to Officer Ashley Guindon with dozens upon dozens of officers escorting her body to the chapel where she will be remembered on Tuesday.

The six-mile long procession began at 7 p.m. at Mountcastle Funeral Home, and traveled to Hylton Memorial Chapel for her services on Tuesday, which begin with a viewing at 10 a.m. Her funeral will be at 12 p.m., and is open to the public, but the department asked that priority be given to her fellow officers in the event of a large turnout, which was expected. Overflow areas were expected to be available outside the chapel.

Officer Guindon was killed after she responded to a domestic violence call at a Woodbridge home on Saturday. It was her first full day on the job. The suspect in the shootings, Ronald Hamilton, is in jail after police say he murdered both Officer Guindon and his own wife.

The Prince William County Police Department asked residents to "line the route" as they carried her body on Monday night. The procession passed in front of Garfield Police Station, where she was assigned. Thousands turned out along the route to pay tribute to Officer Guindon as police vehicles turned on their lights in her honor.
