Police: Angry driver rams car into family, killing woman in Rockland County

HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. (FOX 5 NY) - An enraged driver plowed his car into a family of eight, including a baby and five other children, outside a store in suburban New York, killing a 32-year-old woman and injuring several others, police said.

It happened about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday at a 7-Eleven store in Garnerville, in the town of Haverstraw, Rockland County.

Police say the driver got into a verbal altercation with a member of the family moments before the incident. They say the man then got into his vehicle and drove it forward, striking eight family members.

Police say he then reversed the vehicle and drove forward again, striking the family members for a second time.

The family consisted of a 35-year-old man, his 32-year-old wife, and their six children. They were all taken to a hospital but the mother later died.

The father and three of the children were later moved to Westchester Medical Facility for serious injuries.

The 35-year-old suspect, who was not initially named, was confronted at the scene by police officers. Police say the man had a knife and refused commands to drop it so he was shocked with a stun gun, subdued, and then taken into custody.

He is charged with murder and seven counts of attempted murder.  

Police say the investigation is still ongoing and it is anticipated that several additional charges will be filed.

The names of all involved parties are being withheld at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
