Officers ambushed in Texas and Missouri

Police in San Antonio, Texas are searching for the driver of a vehicle that pulled behind an officer writing a traffic ticket, walked up to the officer's driver-side window and shot him twice in the head, killing him. The shooter then drove off.

Detective Benjamin Marconi, 50, was a 20-year veteran of the force. He was shot outside police headquarters late Sunday morning.

Police posted surveillance video of the suspect approaching police headquarters.

Speaking to reporters Monday, SAPD Chief William McManus described the suspect as a black male in his 20s, 5'8-5'10" with a thin build and goatee. He was driving a black, 2009-2012 Mitsubishi Gallant with custom rims.

"I believe the uniform is the target," said SAPD Chief McManus.

In St.Louis, Missouri, a police sergeant who was shot twice in the face was listed in critical condition but is expected to survive.

Police say the 46-year-old officer was sitting in traffic early Sunday evening when another car pulled up alongside his marked police vehicle. The officer told police he heard at least two shots.

"It is certainly a coincidence," said a San Antonio Police official.
