NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) - Police officers on the overnight shift in the 112th Precinct in Queens caught someone trying to pull off a major mail heist—the theft of an entire sidewalk mailbox.
The NYPD tweeted photos of the USPS's signature blue box stuffed in the back of a Honda Odyssey.
"This goes beyond mailbox fishing: Our @NYPD112Pct midnight officers made an arrest in connection to people taking an entire @USPS mailbox and putting it in their vehicle. #NYPDprotecting," the NYPD tweeted from its main account.
Cops with the 112th Precinct's Midnight Crime Team arrested a man who removed the mailbox from 67th Road and Yellowstone Boulevard in Forest Hills. The precinct tweeted a photo of three police officers posing near the mailbox lying in the back of the Honda.
The department didn't release any further details, but the Forest Hills Post reported that the cops caught three men in the act of loading the mailbox into the minivan and that two of them ran away.
