Queens man convicted of killing NYPD cop

- A jury on Thursday convicted a Queens man in the 2015 fatal shooting of an NYPD plainclothes officer.

Jurors found Demetrius Blackwell, 37, guilty on all counts in connection with the death of Police Officer Brian Moore and the attempted murder of his partner, Police Officer Eric Jansen, who was not hurt in the shooting.

Back on May 2, 2015, Moore and Jansen stopped Blackwell on a street in Queens Village because they suspected he was armed. The DA said Blackwell then opened fire on the officers from no more than 5 feet away, striking Moore in the head but missing Jansen.

Moore died two days later. The NYPD posthumously promoted him to detective first grade.

In closing arguments, the prosecutor described Blackwell as "remorseless."

His defense lawyer said Blackwell has severe mental illnesses, including paranoia.

Moore, 25, grew up in Massapequa, Long Island. He had been with the NYPD for five years.
