NYC transgender woman hopes to help others

Caitlyn Jenner was recently honored in Glamour Magazine's Women of the Year awards. Her journey has raised awareness about the transgender community. But many say a lot of work still needs to be done. One local transgender woman is hoping her story will help others.

Serena Daniari, 22, was born a twin. She was also born a man. She says that growing up in Dallas didn't make coming to terms with what she felt inside easy. Several years ago, Daniari decided to go through with gender confirmation surgery with the help of Dr. Harrison Lee, the same plastic surgeon who helps Caitlyn Jenner in her transformation.

14 months and eight surgeries later, Daniari already has publicly chronicled every step both painful and inspiring on social media including what it's been like to be a transgender woman in the online dating world.

Now, Daniari is a spokesperson for AOL's #BUILTBYGIRLS campaign, an online movement designed to empower women in the workplace.
