NYC landlord burned in package blast dies

- The 73-year-old Queens landlord who was burned when a package exploded in his hands last week has died, the NYPD said.

The blast burned George Wray's head, legs, and torso, police said. He was being treated at Nassau University Medical Center since the July 28, 2017, explosion outside of a house he was renting to two families. He died Tuesday, the NYPD said.

Police officers, detectives, the bomb squad, arson investigators, firefighters, the FBI, the ATF, and U.S. postal investigators all congregated outside 145-23 222 Street in Springfield Garden to investigate last week.

Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce had said that the explosive was rigged to detonate when the package was opened.

The NYPD described the package containing the explosive as a cylinder about the size of an oatmeal container. It had been sitting on the porch of the home for about a week.

Police have not arrested any suspects.
