NYC girl is Google Doodle finalist

Chloe Chan was calm and cool when announced as the winner of a very big honor. This drawing she created for a chance to be on Google's homepage will now represent the State of New York in the final competition.

So how does it feel?

"It feels good," she said.

Chloe entered the Doodle for Google challenge, where kids across the country designed original artwork under the topic "What inspires me."

Chloe, 8, said she knew right away.

"I want to be a doctor when I grow up, so then I wanted to draw about a doctor," she said.

She nailed it. Look closely at the drawing. You'll see a microscope, eyeglasses, a stethoscope, a thermometer, and a bottle of vitamin E spelling out "Google" as the Doodles must do.

Chloe's father encouraged her to enter.

"We started talking, trying to figure out what's the best thing for her to do," Hin Chan said. "Then she came up with the idea."

Carol Chan, her mother, said Chloe wants to be a pediatrician because she likes babies and kids and wants to take care of them.

Google representatives made the announcement at P.S. 188 in Kingsbury, Queens, keeping the third graders in suspense right up until the very end.

"We're really excited. I didn't even realize that we had children that went into the contest," Dr. Janet Caraisco, the principal, said. "I didn't really understand the scope of it until I told my art teacher and she was running around the building, she was so excited."

Chloe's Doodle will now compete with 52 other finalists nationwide for that coveted spot. And she has a message to her fellow New Yorkers: "Vote for my drawing!"

Voting for the national competition finals is from May 7 to May 18. You can cast your vote at doodle4google.com.
