No makeup trend

Forget the recent minimal makeup trend... now some women are giving up make up completely. Well, kind of.

Nadia Afanaseva is the owner of Eye Design in Midtown. She performs semi-permanent face enhancements, like eyebrow microblading, eyebrow powder fill-ins, and lip tinting. It can all last up to a year. We met her client, Sabrina Davi, as she came for her annual microblading touch-up.  Microblading puts pigment into the skin to create tiny lines that look like eyebrow hair.  Here are before and after shots of Sabrina’s brows.

“Before it was so sparse that I looked very naked in my face. You know what I mean, and now that I have that, I have some contouring back. You can see I have a forehead and eyebrows and my eyes. You can see everything else. So I actually feel more comfortable not wearing that makeup now,” said Davi.

Just down the street, the company Lash Forever exclusively performs eyelash extensions. Customer Cristina Menocal comes every two to three weeks when the lashes start to fall off.

"You look awake, you’re ready to go early in the morning. You really don’t need anything else in terms of makeup. It’s just widens your eyes, super easy," said Menocal.

All these tricks to wearing no makeup can come with a hefty price tag. And don't forget the maintenance and frequent touch ups. Doctor Peter Economou is a psychologist who doesn’t think these procedures are for everyone.

“We’re reinforcing the idea that the way we look is not good enough. So the more I engage in these procedures whether it’s eyebrows, eyelashes, hair donem I’m telling myself the story that maybe something isn’t as good as it could be,"  said Dr. Economou.

His biggest piece of advice is to be confident. Dr. Economou says if you feel good on the inside, you’ll start to live that on the outside.
