NFL hopeful honors cop killed in line of duty

When UVA football player Maurice Canady ran his 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine on Monday he honored a police officer from his home state who was gunned down on the job.

Canady wore a pair of orange cleats decorated with the message: “Officer Guindon 2/27/16 Never Forget.”

Officer Ashley Guindon, 28, was shot dead while investigating a domestic violence incident on Saturday.

Canady plans to give one of the cleats to Guindon’s family and will put the other up for auction for the proceeds to go the Officer Guindon's Memorial Fund.

Canady's cousin, Alexus, is a police officer in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

The 6-2, 195-pound Canady ran the 40-yard dash in 4.49 seconds, 0.16 seconds behind the leader.
