The Mattel toy company has released a new Barbie doll in honor of Selma director, Ava DuVernay.

DuVernayis known for her film Selma (2014) and other films such as This is the Life (2008), I Will Follow (2010), and Middle of Nowhere (2012), which won Best Director Prize at the 2012 Sundance film festival, making her the first African-American woman to receive the award.

The 43-year-old DeVernay of Long Beach, California tweeted on Sunday about the exciting release of the new doll.

In the tweet she included a picture of the doll and also announced that all of the proceeds made from Mattel's sales will go to two organizations that DeVernay holds close to her heart. The first is Color of Change, a nonprofit civil rights advocacy organization. The second is Witness, a nonprofit organization that trains and supports people using video to fight for human rights.

The most remarkable aspect of the Ava doll—it completely sold out of stores within 17 minutes.
However, it will be on Amazon to purchase.
