New York City FC opens new training facility

New York City Football Club has new digs in Orangeburg, New York.

Team captain David Villa grew up in the soccer academies of Spain. He called the new training facility "amazing" and that it has "everything."

Head coach Patrick Vieira said that the field, food, and gym are all very high quality.

"I think the club gave us the tools that we need to perform," Vieira said.

The cutting-edge facility is named Etihad City Football Academy and is located 20 miles from Yankee Stadium. It boasts offices, a weight room, rooms for medical treatment, meeting rooms, a dining area only serving food specialized for the players' nutritional guidelines, a world-class locker room, and two full soccer fields on natural grass.

Goalkeeper Sean Johnson said they have no excuse to not produce. And midfielder Tommy McNamara said he was glad to have a new home after three years at a temporary site.

To really get a feel for the quality of the facility, the media was put through a once-in-a-lifetime training experience with Vieira, who is a World Cup champion.

I tried to play soccer in elementary school—it didn't work out. But Vieira's tactical lessons on where to pass the ball, how to receive, two-touch it back an open man, would've made a world of a difference.
