NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - Whole Foods has officially come to Harlem. The new store on 125th Street will feature a selection of foods reflective and unique to the neighborhood.
His name is Clinton Shabazz but to all who know him he is simply the Harlem Pie Man. For more than 20 years, Shabazz has been making delicious pies. For the last three years, he has been selling them out of his Harlem store on Park Avenue. But now his pies will be sold at this Whole Foods.
Whole Foods will feature approximately 20 different Harlem brands. Yemisi Awosan's West African soups with a kick will also be sold here. Her company is called Egunsi Foods.
Right now the local products will only be sold at the Harlem Whole Foods but this is just the beginning.
Harlem Pie Man has some advice for anyone debating whether or not to pick up his desserts.
"You been good all week so be bad today," Shabazz said. "Come in and enjoy a pie. It's all right."
He is right. We all need a treat sometimes.
This Whole Foods store hired 200 local workers. The store opens on July 21.
