NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Authorities say a New Haven police officer shot and wounded a man who rushed at officers with a knife.
Police and firefighters responded to a call of a disturbed man who was threatening suicide at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Officials say an officer shot the man in his lower abdomen in self-defense. It's not clear how many times the man was shot.
The man is being treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital. His name and condition haven't been released. Police say he was conscious and alert after he was shot.
Authorities haven't released the officer's name.
City police have called in state police to investigate under normal protocols for shootings by officers.
