NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) - A Long Island mom faces serious charges related to letting her 4-year-old son eat a pot-laced brownie, selling drugs using social media, and planning a "4/20" drug party at her home, authorities said.
Narcotics cops with the New York State Police executed a search warrant at a Port Jefferson home Thursday night and arrested Sydney Marquez, 29, the home's resident.
"This defendant—a reckless drug dealer with no regard for the law or for the welfare of her child—was taken into custody," Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy Sini said. "Needless to say her 4/20 celebration has been canceled."
Investigators found that Marquez was using a Facebook page called "Good Vibez Only" to sell mushrooms, marijuana, and THC products by mail, according to the DA. The page advertised a party at her house scheduled for April 20.
"The defendant was going to sell drugs at this party, including marijuana, concentrated THC, edibles, and mushrooms," Sini said. "It was called the 'First Annual Good Vibes 420 Party,' and I assure you it will be the last."
The state troopers who searched Marquez's home found marijuana, concentrated cannabis, marijuana brownies, psilocybin mushrooms, packaging and shipping materials, and records detailing her business, police said.
The troopers believe that her son, who was sleeping in the basement, had eaten a marijuana brownie, police said. Authorities brought him to a hospital and notified child-protection officials.
Authorities charged Marquez with two felony drug charges and three misdemeanors, including unlawfully dealing with a child.
