Modular apartment building opens in Brooklyn

A new building called 461 Dean, located in Pacific Park, Brooklyn, has 363 state-of-the-art apartments. It is a 32-story building with quite a view.

What separates it from the rest? It's the world's tallest prefabricated, modular residential high rise. The apartments were fully assembled at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The kitchens, bathrooms, doors were put on a truck and shipped to the site and then picked with a crane and put in place.

461 Dean is the first housing complex of 16 to be completed in this area. More than 900 modulars were used to build the tower. 50 percent of the apartments are market rate, 30 percent are set aside for middle income, and 20 percent are for low income.

A children's playroom and a lounge are just a few of the amenities. The building is adjacent to Barclays Center and a major transportation hub.
