Memorial service for fallen FDNY members

Mayor Bill de Blasio and FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro joined members of the FDNY to honor five of their fellow brothers and sisters who lost their lives in the past year.

The mayor addressed the families of those who died so that others could live. De Blasio presented the department flag to the widow of Deputy Chief Michael Fahy and the Medal for Valor to his children. Chief Fahy was killed in an explosion last month in the Bronx.

The annual memorial service was held at the Firemen's Monument on the Upper West Side.

EMS Lieutenant Joann Restko, EMS Captain Timothy Roberts, EMT Ronald Schaal, and Firefighter Jeffrey Wallen were also honored.
