Medical marijuana company begins home delivery

Vireo Health of New York, one of only five companies licensed by New York State to cultivate, manufacture and dispense medical marijuana, has received approval from the New York State Department of Health to launch a medical marijuana home delivery program.

It is about access and convenience and serving the some 12,000 people approved for medical marijuana that suffer from illnesses like cancer and ALS.  The company says the medical marijuana ‘from our greenhouse to your front door’ home delivery program was designed by a team of security experts, pharmacists and physicians to serve homebound patients with life-threatening and debilitating diseases.

Just more than a year after New York State approved medical marijuana, Vireo plans to begin a home delivery service in New York City, Long Island and Westchester County within the next 90 days.

Patients will be able to place orders on the company's website.  Delivery pricing and other details were not released.

“New Yorkers have increasingly come to expect home delivery and we plan on leveraging ‘last mile’ supply chain technologies to meet and exceed patient expectations,” said company CEO Ari Hoffnung. “We are grateful to the State’s public health and safety officials for their help making this Compassion Care Act program a reality.”

When it comes to safety, Vireo Health employees go through security training and vehicles are outfitted with special equipment including GPS tracking devices.

One thing Vireo Health won't do is accept Visa or MasterCard. Marijuana is still illegal under federal law, so this service cash only.   Certified patients or family members of patients interested in receiving more information can sign-up for home delivery program updates by visiting: www.vireohealthny.com/delivery.
