Man accidentally shoots himself at Zabar's

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - A man accidentally shot himself in the leg while shopping at Zabar's on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, according to police.

Staff members told cops that a homeless man had just paid for his coffee and bagel when his gun went off.

Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said the man -- identified as Louis Lester Anderson, 48 -- walked away from the counter, adjusted his waistband, and shot himself in the leg. Bratton said he went to a nearby hospital, which called the police.

Anderson told police that he found the gun near the Lincoln Tunnel while looking for cardboard, and that he was not trying to rob the store.

Cops said they found the gun in nearby Riverside Park. Police expect to charge Anderson.
