Man and boy killed in shooting in New Jersey

A man and a boy were shot and killed in Orange, New Jersey, Thursday afternoon, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. The shooting happened near Cleveland Street and Alden Street.

The man was believed to be in his 20s and the boy was a toddler, according to the prosecutor.

Neighbors heard screams and gunfire. Some told Fox 5 they heard more than a dozen gunshots.

Investigators say the little boy was killed right outside his home on Cleveland Street.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the Orange Police Department are investigating. Police spent hours gathering evidence at the scene.

At about the same time police responded to another a car that appeared to have been set on fire. It the vehicle was found a mile away from the double murder scene. It is not yet known if that vehicle is related to the incident.

Neighbors say in recent months there have been a number of shootings and gang related violence in this area.
