Long Island teacher wins prestigious Milken award

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - An assembly at Glen Cove High School on long island had a big surprise for one English teacher. School officials and about a thousand students were there as they slowly learned that someone in the room was going to win $25,000. And then the moment: "The winner is Lauren Jensen!"

Jensen is this year's recipient of the Milken Educator Award, presented every year by the Milken Family Foundation. The family's goal with the award is to attract and retain outstanding teachers. In the last 28 years, the foundation has devoted more than $137 million toward the award.

What is Lauren going to do with the $25,000? She said she will spend it on something having to do with education.
