Cops shoot and wound man wielding knife in Brooklyn

NEW YORK (AP) — Police say officers have shot and wounded a man armed with a knife after responding to a report of an emotionally disturbed person in Brooklyn.

It happened just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday at 68th Street and Avenue T in the Bergen Beach neighborhood.

Police say officers who arrived on the scene encountered a 29-year-old man brandishing some kind of cutting instrument.

Police say the man rushes at one of the officers and the officers fired their weapons, striking him an unknown number of times.

The man was hospitalized and is expected to survive.

Police say a weapon has been recovered.
