MTA rolling out vintage buses for holiday season

NEW YORK (AP) — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is offering city bus riders a blast from the past during the holiday season.

From Dec. 5-21, vintages buses that were in use from the late 1940s to the early 1970s will be running along 42nd Street on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Officials say the vehicles show how far bus design has come. Among the vintage buses are ones from the 1950s that were the first to have fluorescent lighting and push-type rear exit doors.

The buses will run if weather allows and not during inclement conditions.
