Mother saved after overdosing in front of 7-year-old child

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say Newark police saved the life of a woman who overdosed in front of her 7-year-old child.

City Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose says officers found the woman when they responded to a call on Broadway shortly before 8 p.m. Monday.

They revived her with the heroin antidote naloxone, known by the brand name Narcan. She was taken to a hospital for treatment, but further details on her condition were not disclosed.

The woman's name has not been released.

The child was not injured and is now in the custody of their father.
