Cops fatally shoot man they say refused to drop gun

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Police Department says officers shot and killed a man who they say refused to drop his gun when they ordered him to.

Officers went to the Bronx neighborhood shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday after receiving a 911 call and notification of shooting in the area from a gunshot detection system.

Authorities say officers came across a man with a gun who refused to put down the weapon after they ordered him to. Three officers fired their weapons, striking the man several times. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police say a gun was recovered at the scene.
