Child killed by falling flower planter in New York City

NEW YORK (AP) - An 8-year-old boy was struck and killed by a heavy flower planter while playing in his Brooklyn neighborhood. Police say Kevin Reilly was climbing near the window of his house when he reached for the planter that came loose and struck him.

Officers responding to a 911 call found Reilly unresponsive with head trauma. He was transported to Coney Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Neighbors remained around the home for a few hours after the accident expressing disbelief.

One neighbor, Anthony Terranova, says he had never seen something like that for the 30 years he's lived in the neighborhood.

After the accident, Department of Building workers were seen inspecting the planters.
