Authorities: Teen girl hurt, dog killed in hit-and-run crash

CRANBURY, N.J. (AP) - Authorities are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and injured a teenage girl and killed her dog.

Cranbury say the 13-year-old girl was walking her leashed dog when the accident occurred Wednesday night.

Witnesses said the dog stepped in front of the girl as the SUV came toward them. The driver then sped off, but Cranbury police say pieces of the SUV's bumper broke off at the scene and are being examined.

Authorities say the girl was treated at a hospital for a "moderate" injury, but further details were not disclosed. Family members say she is now recuperating at home.

Her father told WCBS-TV (http://cbsloc.al/2pzqIp1) his daughter is "suffering, but she is alive. I wish I could say the same thing about our dog."
