NEW YORK (AP) — Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a surveillance video that shows a man punching a 64-year-old man in the face at a New York City street corner last summer. The victim later died.
Police say 41-year-old Mathew Smith, of Queens, was arrested Monday on charges of criminal negligent homicide and assault with intent to cause physical injury in the death of Patrick Gorman. Information on his lawyer wasn't immediately available.
Street surveillance video shows Gorman walking toward the intersection in Queens and being punched in the face by a man who approaches him from behind.
Gorman then struggles to get up as the assailant casually walks away as he is joined by a woman. Gorman was hospitalized and later died. The woman is still being sought by police.
