Judge OKs settlement over Subway sandwich length

NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Subway restaurants will promise to use a measuring tool for bread to help ensure that bread sold to customers is either 6 or 12 inches long as part of a settlement of a class action suit.

The privately held firm will also do monthly inspections at restaurants to sample the baked bread to ensure it is at least 12 inches long. The sampling will include measuring at least 10 baked breads in total, and breads using both the Italian and 9-Grain Wheat loaves will be included in the sample.

The whole issue surfaced in 2013 when an Australian teen's photo of an 11" sandwich went viral.

The settlement comes after nine people, including two people in New Jersey, individually sued claiming they were being short changed.  It turned into a class action lawsuit but only those nine people will get money out of the settlement... up to $1,000 apiece.
