Indian Point nuclear plant outage extended to replace missing bolts

BUCHANAN, N.Y. (AP) — A planned outage at the Indian Point nuclear power plant will be extended for several weeks after officials found missing bolts during an inspection.  Entergy Corp., which runs the facility north of New York City, said Tuesday that more than 2,000 bolts had been inspected when the Indian Point 2 reactor was shut down. Company officials said more than 200 of the bolts needed further analysis and that some of the bolts on the reactor's inner liner were missing.

The company said there was no impact on public safety or health.  Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said it was the latest in a series of incidents that he says raises concerns about the plant's management. He said state officials will continue to investigate the plant's operations.
