'I'm with her' shirts a hit years before Clinton's campaign

New York designer Rachel Antonoff is reticent to take credit for Hillary Clinton's campaign slogan, though she did begin printing "I'm with her" on her clothing three years before the Democratic nominee announced her campaign for president. As the origins of the slogan are unclear, a larger question remains: does fashion have the power to influence politics?

Antonoff makes comfortable clothing with a sense of humor for the bold modern woman. One of Antonoff's early pieces became more than just a statement. It is the rallying cry of an entire political campaign.

Antonoff started printing the phrase "I'm with her" on her graphic tees and sweatshirts in 2012. The "I'm with her" sweatshirts became a best seller back then. Three years later the phrase would take on new meaning when Clinton announced her candidacy for president in 2015.

But in a digital age where origins can be hard to trace, Antonoff hesitates to draw any connection between her design and Clinton's campaign.

Rachel has been in touch with the Clinton campaign, but not about the slogan or the inspiration behind it.

Sales of Antonoff's "I'm with her shirts" have spiked in recent months, which prompted her to respond with a corresponding shirt: "Not with him."
