LAKE RONKONKOMA, N.Y. (FOX 5 NY) - A gang fued erupted in gunfire in front of frightened customers inside an IHOP restaurant on Long Island.
Suffok County police say that Deontrae Green shot Tyriek Corbin while both were inside the restaurant on Portion Road in Lake Ronkonkama.
"There were two groups of individuals in the restaurant. Multiple individuals sitting at a table, one of the individuals from the other group as they were leaving approached the group at the table," Chief of Department Stuart Cameron said. "One of the individuals drew a gun, fired multiple shots, we believe striking the individuals at least one time."
Corbin went to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated, police said. He underwent surgery.
Green, 19, of Islandia, was arrested a short time later and charged with several crimes. He was held overnight and was expected to be arraigned on Tuesday.
Detectives believe the incident was not random, but was the result of an internal dispute between members of the Bloods gang. They are investigating whether the incident is related to two shootings that took place in Coram earlier on Monday that left three people with gunshot wounds.
About 20 patrons were in the IHOP, police said. A family with a small child in a high chair were at the table next to where the shooting happened.
Several of the patrons were visibly distraught as they spoke to police and to reporters about what they witnessed.
I was just sitting in my local IHOP (Ronkonkoma) with my dad and brother when 5 men came in and started shooting at each other. Thankfully no innocent bystanders were hurt. We hear about it all the time. This world is so crazy. pic.twitter.com/ZcbsYMHNVh— Brianna Corallo (@BriannaCorallo) March 4, 2019
