How often should you get a physical?

New Yorkers have conflicting views when it comes to getting their medical check-ups. Is it necessary to go for a physical every year?

Dr. Len Horovitz with Lenox Hill Hospital says he is disturbed to hear about recent medical studies from doctors stating that people in good health can wait about 3 years between physicals.

Dr. Horovitz says diabetes, early stages of Lyme disease, and high blood pressure could all have silent symptoms that could affect patients at any age. The doctor put me in the hot seat. My blood pressure was very good.

Personally, I'm relieved just to have peace of mind. But many New Yorkers say it is the furthest thing from their minds.

Dr. Horovitz says physicians who are telling their patients not to get an annual exam are setting a bad precedent. He also wants to stress that no matter your age, new health complications can arise every year.
