Helping veterans get mental health care

Veterans need our help now more than ever to combat behavioral and mental health needs, according to Kimberly Williams from the Mental Health Association of NYC.

Will Beckenhaupt, a veteran living in East Moriches, Long Island, is one brave soldier who said he is not afraid to ask for help. Will served in the Army and was deployed to Iraq when he was 23. He lost two of his best friends in combat and he has been suffering mentally ever since in an ongoing battle with PTSD.

Will wants other struggling vets to know that there is no shame in asking for help. He says there are countless resources available that vets may not know about, including MHA-NYC's veterans crisis line.

Will hopes by speaking out he can help inspire other veterans, or any person, who may be suffering from PTSD or depression. His advice is to always surround yourself with loved ones and don't be afraid to ask for help.
