Brooklyn company to give away heating system

It has been a been a bone-chilling winter. Paul Hamel, like countless New Yorkers, has experienced it firsthand.

"I've always wanted to give something back to the community or someone that really actually needs it, and this is the way to do it," said Hamel. He's the owner of Iceberg Mechanical Corp.

His company is giving away a free heating and cooling system to a family or person in need in the tristate area. That includes the equipment and installation of both the indoor and outdoor components, which normally cost $6,000. They're accepting nominations online.

"The easiest way to do it would be to go to our website which is www.icebergmechanical.com," said James Evans, the company's client relationship manager. "It will take you right to the form you can nominate yourself, you can nominate a family member, or you can nominate a friend, you can nominate a neighbor—anybody you think you can share their story, the circumstances that they're really in,"

Iceberg Mechanical Corp., which is based in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, tries to give back in different ways all year, but this is the first time they're radiating the warmth in this way.

The company plans to announce the winner on Valentine's Day. The owner says he chose that day as a way to show the city some love. All nominations need to be in by January 31.
