Heart transplant survivor dies hours after giving birth

A heart transplant recipient died this week, just hours after giving birth to a baby girl.

Megan Johnson, who chronicled her 2010 transplant in a book titled "Megan's Heart," had a smooth delivery but began to go downhill after spending just six hours with little Eilee Kate.

Josh Wilson, who is a bandmate of Johnson's musician husband, Nathan, started a GoFundMe to help keep the new dad and widower off the road and home with his baby.

"Yesterday, Megan went Home to be with Jesus.  At about 2:40am, she gave birth to the beautiful miracle who is "Eilee Kate."  The delivery was beautiful and smooth.  Nathan and Megan got to be together with Eilee for about 6 hours.

"Megan held, fed, and burped little Eilee.  Nathan says they couldn't sleep because they were too excited.  They talked all night and morning.

"About 9 or 10am, Meg started having trouble.  By 11am, she was Home.Needless to say, Nathan is devastated," Wilson wrote.

Buoyed by their story's undeniable tragedy, the fund quickly surpsassed its $40,000 goal. As of this writing, over $375,000 have been donated to Johnson and Eilee.

"Let's raise enough money for Nathan to get off the road for at least 6 months.  Let's cover his bills and meals so he doesn't have to think about any of that.  Let's sleep over at his house and feed sweet Eilee so Nate can rest," Wilson's plea continues. "Please consider giving money, meals, prayer, or your own sleep so we can show Nate and Eilee how much we love them."

While it is known that women with heart transplants can experience complications resulting from pregnancy, it remains unclear exactly what caused Megan's death.
