By the time the Harriet Tubman memorial arrived in 2008, Willie Morgan was already growing cotton in Harlem. He asked the city if he could decorate Harriet's new home with these fluffy, weightless bulbs that are so heavy with history.

The green thumb came first. Then 11 years ago Willie started caring for a garden on 122nd Street. Willie will introduce you to flavors you didn't even know existed local restaurants eat up his exotic herb varieties.

Amongst the collard greens, okra and peppers, brotherhood grows in equal measure. Willie cooks, too. His side catering business generates seed money.

All of this is because one seed blossomed into a passion that feeds an entire community with love.
