The gunman opened who fire inside a mall, casino, and hotel complex in the Philippines early Friday morning has been found dead of an apparent suicide, according to officials.

Dozens of people were hurt, likely while trying to flee, according to the Manila Times. The complex is near Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

ISIS quickly claimed responsibility for the attack, the AP reported. But the Philippine national police chief said the gunman's motive appeared to be robbery and that the attack likely was not terrorism. Gen. Ronald Dela Rosa said the gunman stole gambling chips, shot a video monitor, and set fire to gambling tables. The gunman did not shoot at people.

"Resorts World Manila is currently on lockdown following reports of gunfire from unidentified men," the resort wrote on Twitter earlier.

Gunfire and explosions were reported at the hotel sometime after midnight. Metropolitan Manila Development Authority reported that there is a "fire alert" at the Resort World Manila in Pasay about 12:30 a.m. local time.

"Emergency Message- reports of explosions/gunfire at Resorts World Manila. Monitor local news for updates," the U.S. State Department tweeted.
